And also helps train a crafter.Īfter various base designs in various places, I find mountains generally the best. Making a stone cutter's bench in the middle of the mess and setting the bill to drop bricks on the ground rather than hauling them can clear this away much faster. You may also find as you dig out, particularily if you make wide hallways (I usually made mine 3 wide) a lot of stone chunks can build up and hauling them away is time consuming. But with my shacks I can now plan out and take time to make my base exactly how I want it, without rushing for basics. This is on top of the already recommended things, mountain to your back, get some farms up, hunt animals. An early fridge, is highly useful to store meat. A quick common room as well, table and chairs, keep this close to early food storage. I spend some wood, which you should find in abundance in a jungle, on 4/5 early 5x5 or 6圆 quick bedrooms, just walls, floor, roof and bed. I usually make a quick temporary settlement. Sandstone on the other hand is easy for even untrained miners. Digging in granite takes a long time, even with decent miners. Watch stone types, I have made many mountain bases and the durability of stone can be harsh. This is the perfect size for an orbital beacon to be in the middle and leave the corners for other storage (steel, wood, certain types of stone blocks, etc.) A personal preference is to build 15x15 resource rooms for my fridge, textiles/cloth, weapons & misc., and clothing rooms with a pillar on the 5th interior block diagonally from each corner counting in. smooth floors are fantastic for both beauty and speed increase but with no resource expense other than time/effort Build a "honey pot" for infestations as soon as possible to increase chance of infestation there instead of in your base. It insulates far better than built roofing.

You mention roofing, but mountain top is your friend. Dig to 1 square away from the edge and stop. never dig all the way to the edge of a map while under a mountain.that immediately becomes "outside" territory and also lets in all kinds of other problems.you won't be able to block it up right there either since you can't build to the edge of the map. Since you've played before, I'll mention a couple finer points that may help. Yes, a sprawling complex is possible and reasonable, but your percentage of coverage will depend on your size of map of course. Is a sprawling complex inside a mountain that takes up 1/3 of the map reasonable? Turned a nearby metal shack into a temporary prison. Resource-saving was one thing I had in mind.īeds are already built, and the cut-in was small enough that I was able to roof it for safe storage but big enough to store all the starting items. Already done, entrance was built into a conveniently-sized natural cut into the mountain.Īlready have a farm set up and growing, and have hunted qutie a few animals. small room for your first prisoner.Īfter that you want to another storage for your food. You want to build a base into the mountain so that you save little bit of resources. Originally posted by sweeper:well you want to have mountain on your back so you dont need to build more defences then you need.Īnd you want to look for good place to make farms, but hunting is going to be your early food sources.
